Info for the First time skier, I would recommend Massanutten. They have a rental, lift and lesson package with $5 off if you have an Ukrop card. The reason being is they have a very flat wide beginner slope you can use after the lesson and the driving time is the same as Wintergreen if you take 33. That is I64, US15, US33 right turn after Elkton. See their map etc.
Wintergreen has a very short beginner area.
You have a choice of leaving 6AM or leave around 8 AM taking your time and start with the larger afternoon crowd. The beginner areas are well light for night skiing. Makes for a long day but, you have the other weekend day free.
Timberline has some very good kid teachers. Personal experience.
BE SURE YOU READ THE TICKET TIMES AND CLASS TIMES BEFORE LEAVING HOIME.
Get a small waist pack for your personal things and carry it around your stomach for the least chance of damage and ease of getting on the chair. If the ski area has flex time charges you will only have to time the lessons. Allow at least an hour to get skies and do the fitting of the boots. Bring change for the lockers. Some allow storage bags on the floor most do not and bring some long thin socks.
